From Copenhagen I headed south through the Danish countryside on the large island Sjælland mainly following the major roads. On the second and third days I crossed the bridges onto the islands of Falster and Lolland. I was once again blessed with beautiful quiet campsites, many of which included a lean to, view of the water, and a friendly neighbor.
Next was a ferry to the island of Langeland and then to the island of Ærø on the same day. There are three lovely small towns along the coast of the island and many beaches with beautiful clear water. In the middle the island rises up to a hill from which the sea can be seen on all sides. I ended up staying a second night and added a stop at the local brewery. They had the best NE IPA I've had on the trip so far.
From the western end of Ærø I took a final ferry back to the Danish mainland. Passing through Sønderborg I stopped at my favorite library of the trip which included four levels all overlooking the bay. After two more nights of camping with some heavy rain I was back across the border into Germany and the city of Flensburg where I would pick up my rental car to head down to Munich. This marks a pause in cycling for the next couple of weeks and also the end of the solo part of the trip.
